After receiving numerous recommendations from economic organizations, financial institutions, and other organizations throughout Japan that are well versed in the field, the 300 companies for fiscal 2023 were selected by a panel of judges comprised of experts who are knowledgeable about management strategies and so forth and deliberated by the SME Management Support Subcommittee.

About the 300 Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Japan in 2023

The year 2023 showed positive signs, with the diffusion index for business conditions of SMEs in all industries recording the highest level in about 30 years, and the rate of wage growth also reaching the highest level in about 30 years. However, SMEs continued to face difficult conditions in the year due to high prices, soaring energy prices, structural labor shortages, and changes in the business environment such as GX and DX.

This year's 300 Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) have been selected from five areas: Business Restructuring and Productivity Improvement, Overseas Expansion, GX, DX, and Investment in People and Environmental Improvement.

The winners were selected as representatives of Japan who are active in a variety of fields, including initiatives that support innovation in Japan, proactive overseas sales channel development, initiatives that contribute to energy conservation and decarbonization, the use of data and digital technology, and the development of the work environment through the utilization of diverse human resources.

We hope that the award will serve as a model for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Japan and abroad, and that they will continue to make strong contributions to the industry in the future.

Finally, we hope that the efforts of the award winners will be disseminated throughout Japan to help SMEs in various regions solve their problems, and we hope that SMEs in Japan as a whole will make even stronger strides forward in the future.
